About

Jan is an experienced executive with 8+ years of work experience, setting up and running businesses in emerging markets with a focus on Asia. Previously with Alibaba Group in Hangzhou, China, he focused on the company’s international expansion, including ventures across Southeast Asia and Europe. As current Chief Commercial Officer at Daraz Group (Alibaba acquisition), Jan is part of Daraz’ group senior management team.

His portfolio includes a wide range from heading international trade to creating offline presences across five markets. Jan is managing a diverse team across 6 countries (Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Nepal & China). With a passion for, and background in, public policy, Jan’s perspective extends beyond purely commercial aspects to the contribution e-commerce and digitalization deliver to emerging economies. 

Before his career in E-commerce, Jan worked with Deutsche Bank in London and Airbus Group in Germany.

Through his studies at University of Vienna, Vienna University of Economics and Business, Peking University as well as the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), he developed solid expertise on Chinese and European politics, policymaking and government affairs. Jan was able to put his skills to practice while working for the German and European Parliaments, business associations as well as government affairs departments of multinational corporations. He developed a comprehensive and analytical understanding of business, investment and political processes globally, with a special focus on Europe, China and their mutual relations.
